Most stores have policies to “protect” employees from being a hero in stopping theft. In reality, these policies are to protect the company’s image from unforseen outcomes. It is cheaper for any company to lose merchandise to theft, than it is to deal with injured/killed employees. However, should there be exception to policy if it was to save future lives?
